Yes, he has a disability. He also has a degree and a job. If he’s able to work from home, he’s able to get a job. He’s not handicapped; handicapped literally means helpless. He sounds like a capable and intelligent young man, with or without Asperger’s. And let’s face it, you won’t be around forever. If you don’t give him a push now, he’ll never learn to take care of himself.
If he has social anxiety disorder, he needs to get help to learn to live with it. Tell him what the ground rules are - that in two months (or whatever amount of time you think is appropriate), he’s going to have to start paying rent. Help him find a counselor who specializes in working with people on the spectrum, and who will help your son learn to cope with his disability. And remain firm - remember that having high expectations for your son is the best thing you can do for him. Good luck.

I read about Aspberger and it seems that you should keep trying but don’t be to hard on him. Try to push him without over doing it. Maybe try talking to some who specializes in it and maybe they can help you.

if you dont want to leave him homeless... allow him to live in the rental unit, but cut off all financial support. then he will be forced to live in the dark and cold in his little apartment, or get a job and do something for himself,and you dont have the guilt of leaving him homeless, youre just leaving it up to him to decide how comfortably he lives in that home.

You may need to look into a living facility for him. My stepbrother has Aspbergers and he can’t hold down a job at all. He really just can’t seem to function properly on the job but he goes through MRDD to get special jobs to do in order to have some money because my stepmom is dying of cancer and so before long he won’t have to help him. She looked into other options and found a couple of living facilities that will take on adults with such problems and help them basically have a chance at life but they are required to do chores there to earn their keep. Your right it isn’t a simple problem at all, it is very difficult to be a parent to a child with special needs knowing that if you die who will take care of them. Check around for an MRDD program or call Job and Family Services and see if they know of any programs for adults that are special needs like that. Goodluck and I wish you the best.

yeah it seems like u have an eternal mooch.. u need to cut him off. sooner or later (since he is so damn educated) he will know that it is time to get a job and he will… social anxiety??? what kind of babble is that? he is playing you cause he knows ur his mom and he knows u will do it since essentially all u really have is him… either way, dont cut him off just talk to him lik eu normally would when he asks for $$ tell him u have got to go and just hang up on him. dont be scared u are the moterh!!! lol

I would kick him out. It seems he has no respect for you as a human more and less for being his mother. And it looks like he is use to the good life and has been sheltered. Maybe once he hit the streets and got into the real world and realize he has it pretty good maybe he’ll change his tune.
I do not think the good will helps get you set up..you usually have to pay for items there. I do not know what Aspbergers is, but I certainly admire your kindness and care for your child, but enough is enough. Good Luck

Edit: maybe you should sell the other property, so he knows he has no where to continue to stay, and even if you get him evicted, he could still try and break in, so it could be in your best interest to get rid of the property. (just a thought)

is there a support group you can get in? call your hospital, they should be able to set you up with something. maybe they can help with a solution. i am sorry i couldnt be more help.

Stop giving him money altogether. Ask for rent and let him know that if he doesn’t pay he has to leave. Refuse to pay his car insurance. He is sponging and knows that you will give in.

Be strong and determined and tell him it is time for him to help himself. Find out about any organisations in his area that may be able to assist him and contact them. Let them go to him and get him sorted.

You need peace of mind and financial security.
